Well Annie and I made it without incident to right outside of Columbia, Missouri on our first day, which isn't too bad considering we didn't leave WV until almost 1:30pm! The trip is going great so far and the drive hasn't been bad at all. Louisville was beautiful as usual and Indiana and Illinois were just "there"...LOL The Impala is doing great on the road and the gas mileage is outstanding...we made it all the way Mount Vernon, IL before we filled up. Mount Vernon is about twenty minutes outside of St. Louis, but we were afraid to fight the traffic and run out of gas so we filled up....it cost $3.19 per gallon. Boy were we dumb, in St. Louis gas was $2.94! Speaking of St. Louis, it was awesome...so beautiful and the arch was amazing. I took some pics of Cardinal Field, it's soooo nice there. But of course our main objective was the arch. We arrived in St. Louis a little after 8, parked it the parking garage on the Mississipi River and walked the short distance to the monument. I read in one of the books I bought for the trip that they give the tours of the arch until 10pm in the summer.
After the arch, we decided to try to find one of the restaurants in my books, the only thing we found was the Anheuser Busch...and believe me you can smell it before you can see it! I have discovered one important thing about Missouri drivers...they are crazy! They speed, slam on brakes honk their horns if you aren't quick enough, it was very stressful.
We had planned on makng it to Kansas City, but we decided to call it a night early b/c of a storm. I'll post pics tom
